semaphore logosemaphore is an expose of communication as a sent message. acting on a signal received commences the journey. responding to the message begins the connection. as we move from an industrial society to an information-based one we reflect on communication tools at our disposal, ensuring we honour the promise of each generation. the method of sending the message has evolved and morphed over time and distance. from historic rail semaphore to the human body it's the same expression sent in different ways. as humans our passion to communicate continues to play out with new ways of being.

semaphore is an exhibition in various formats for the fringe programme of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale. photographic works are on display at the Ballarat Railway Station. emma stoneman's works are located on the pedestrian screen, Lydiard Street entrance to the coach/bus bays. erin mccuskey's work is installed on the west end of train platform 2. multimedia works exist online at www.yum.vic.edu.au/semaphore. these works can be accessed on the internet, or on mobile via your browser - use the QR code if your mobile phone has a scanning application.
